PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema should suspend Inspector General of Police Lemmy Kajoba and Christopher Mundia his Special Assistant for Legal Affairs over the misappropriation of US$15.5 million meant for Ghanaian expatriate teachers coordinating committee, Emmanuel Mwamba has said.

Mr Mwamba, Zambia’s former Ambassador to Ethiopia says leaked classified correspondence between Mr Jajoba and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security which has also sucked in Christopher Mundia should move President Hichilema to take action against all involved.

He said Mr Kajoba is reported to have authored a detailed report on how payments were made to Zambians who were not beneficiaries of the money meant for Ghanaians expatriates which was disbursed in 2021.

“In this special report of April 2022, the Inspector General of Police revealed how Special Assistant to the President for Legal Affairs, Mr. Christopher Mundia instructed and halted investigations into the misappropriation of a court award of US$15.5 million which was meant for the Ghanaian Former Expatriate Teachers Coordinating Committee,” Mr Mwamba said.

Mr Mwamba said Mr Mundia as an individual, through his law firm had benefited K1,5 million, money meant for Ghanaians expatriate teaches and was therefore a clear suspect of the criminal investigations.

“I wonder if President Hichilema really sent him to halt the investigations. This is a serious matter and has serious ramifications against State House, Inspector General of Police and Ministry of Home Affairs,” he said.

He said in ordinary and normal circumstances, President Hichilema would have suspended Mr Kajoba and Mr Mundia who had been implicated in the matter to pave way for investigations.

Mr Mwamba said President Hichilema should cause to immediately reinstate the halted investigations that saw the theft of US$15.5million meant for former Ghanaian expatriate teachers.
