A VISITING American tennis coach says children and adults in Zambia share a deep devotion for tennis, and all sports that bring communities together.

“Being my first trip to Zambia, I was humbled by the simplicity of the culture here. A slower pace of living that is focused on community. It allowed me to see the detailed beauty of life that can sometimes be overlooked in the United States,” Cole Conner, a tennis coach at TbarM Raquet Club in South Carolina, says.
Conner led a coaching course at Mufulira Tennis Club at the Love-40 juniors coaching day over the weekend.
At the invitation of USA-domiciled Zambian tennis coach Sydney Bwalya, Cole conducted a coaching clinic which attracted tennis enthusiasts from around the country.
A total of 24 girls and 47 boys took part in the event organised by Love40 and Mufulira Tennis Club.
“First of all, I would like to thank Mufulira Tennis Club for giving me the opportunity to come and share my passion for tennis with the members of the club. My overall impression here in Zambia is the kids as well as the adults share a deep devotion for tennis, and all sports that bring communities together,” he says.
Conner says with his tennis mentor and friend Bwalya, the privilege to work together for the past two years has given him a new perspective on the true meaning of the sport.
Mwenya, who is also Zambia Tennis Association junior programmes coordinator says he wants to take advantage of the same knowledge to extend to other clubs to come up with a standardised level of coaching in the country.
