The Kabulonga Girls Alumni Association (KGAA) has issued a rallying call for equal access to education, economic opportunities, and leadership roles, emphasising that empowerment is about creating a thriving Zambia for all.
Speaking at a career day event at Kabulonga Girls Secondary School, KGAA president Charity Luchembe Chikumbi urged young women to rise above societal limitations, push back against gender-based violence and early child marriages, and embrace leadership in all fields.
She emphasised that empowerment is not about favouring one gender over another but about ensuring that every Zambian, regardless of gender, has the opportunity to succeed.
The event brought together successful alumni from fields such as medicine and engineering, providing inspiration and mentorship to current students.
These professionals shared their journeys, encouraging young girls to break barriers and pursue their ambitions fearlessly.
Delivering a keynote address for the Joint Women’s Day and Youth Day Celebrations, Ms Chikumbi highlighted the progress made by Zambian women in leadership, business, and education but emphasised that much work remains.
She noted that while more girls are attending school, more women are taking their place in leadership, and more voices are being heard, true empowerment would only be achieved when every girl has the confidence to dream without limits and the support to achieve those dreams.
She challenged young women to embrace innovation and leadership, stating that they are at the heart of Zambia’s transformation.
In a world driven by technology and entrepreneurship, she stressed that young people must not only dream but take action.
She noted that innovation thrives when they are equipped with skills, mentorship, and opportunities.
She urged leaders and society at large to create an environment where young voices are not just heard but amplified.
Ms Chikumbi said empowered women raise empowered youth, and together, they create a stronger society.
She called on all stakeholders to rise, build, and shape a Zambia that is truly inclusive, equal, and full of opportunities for all.
The association is led by president Chikumbi, with vice-president Tsute Mwale, Secretary Lizzie Munsanje, Vice Secretary Mulenga Chilambwe, Treasurer Carol Chimimba, and Vice Treasurer Josephine Mpuku Ngomalala.
Committee members include Shupekile Mwanza, Lwatambuyu Sililo-Mabubo, Ruth Simwanza Mugala, Alice Makekani Hakasenke, and Cynthia Mpwika.
KGAA continues to champion the fight for gender equality, ensuring that every Kabulonga Girl has the tools and opportunities to succeed.
