KENYAN drivers Karan Patel and Lauseef Khan were crowned champions of the 2023 Africa Rally Championship after clocking a total stage time of 1:59:54 seconds.

The Kenyans who were driving a Ford Fiesta R5 outclassed Uganda’s Jas Mangat and his French co-driver Jules Escartefigue who finished second with a time of 2:03:47 seconds.

Uganda’s Inocent Bwamiki and Hamza Lwanda who were driving a Mistsubishi Evo 9 completed the top three with a record 2:22”17 second.

Meanwhile the Zambian team of Leroy Gomes and Urshilla Gomes were unfortunate as their campaign ended prematurely after hitting a hidden stump that shattered and broke the rim and shock in the Bull stage of the championship.

The power racing couple was fortunate to survive the clash which left their Ford Fiesta R5 in an unrecognizable state.

“Our hearts are ok. We didn’t win it for mother Zambia this time. But we sure did have fun trying. Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout this event,” Gomes Racing team said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Hamza Anwar and Adnam Dir from Kenya beat Prince Nyerere and Shameer Yusuf who were also representing Kenya to win the ACR Junior Championship.

In the Zambian National Championship Kyle and Balveen Latife drove well and managed to get the fastest time for national drivers to scoop the Zambia international Rally 2023.
