UPND national youth chairperson Gilbert Liswaniso should not lie that the democratic space in the country is not shrinking because Zambians are seeing what is happening.
So is the international community.
The police have no rights to stop a political grouping to hold meetings, the duty of the police is to provide security.
A political party is obliged by law to inform the police of their intentions to hold a public rally on a particular day. We do not think any of the political parties has failed to do this.
In a similar vein, the Zambia Police when informed are also obliged by the law to ensure that they provide security.
In a functioning democracy, the security wings do not stop political organisations or other stakeholders to have meetings when they want to air their grievances or meet their supporters. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
