We never arrested Sean – Police

By LUCY PHIRI

THE Zambia police has described as false reports that it had arrested Sean Tembo, the president of the Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) from his residence last Thursday.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says claims that police arrested Mr Tembo at his residence in Ngwerere, Lusaka were unfounded as the opposition leader was only invited by the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) for amendment of his charge of hate speech.

Mr. Hamoonga in an interview said police received instructions from the National Prosecutions Authority who are prosecuting his old matter to re-arrest him because they needed to substitute his old charge of hate speech.

Mr. Hamoonga said Mr Tembo had been arrested on the offence of hate speech in October, and on November 23, 2023, the he was called for the amendment of the charge. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.
