AFTER humbling Angola 6-0 in Luanda a week ago, the Bruce Mwape-drilled Zambia national women’s team will today host their Cosafa rivals in the last leg of the final 2024 WAFCON qualifying round.

The match slated for Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola is deemed as a dead rubber match because Angola will need a miracle and score seven unanswered goals if they are to qualify for the WAFCON slated for next year in Morocco.

Despite the Copper Queens enjoying a 6-0 advantage, Mwape said they will take the game seriously as they seek to complete a double over their regional rivals.

Mwape said Zambia will not underrate Angola and would fight to get a positive result which would guarantee the country’s third consecutive appearance at the WAFCON in Morocco.

“The team is ready for the second leg against Angola. Although we played them and won 6-0 in Angola it doesn’t mean that we have to underrate them, there will be nothing like underrating them. 

“We know they are serious and I’m sure they would also like to win the game but we are ready and we have no injuries. All the players are fit and ready for the game,” Mwape said.

Mwape hinted that he would not make changes to the first team which started against Angola in Luanda.

He however confirmed that he will give the youngsters a chance to gain some experience as the Coper Queens use the WAFCON qualifiers to prepare for the Olympic qualifiers against Ghana.

Meanwhile, Copper Queens captain Barbra Banda said the team still has unfinished business with Angola as they aim to qualify for the WAFCON. 

“We are read and as a team we are not relaxed. We still have unfinished business with Angola. The morale is high and we are looking forward to play them,” Banda said.
