Russia’s Ambassador’s responds to Daily Nation

I PAID attention to the fact that in one of the latest issues of the Daily Nation newspaper (issue 04.04.2023) was published an article Wanton destruction in which the author fully supports the proposal of the President of the Republic of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema about the need to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict at the negotiating table.

The Embassy also supports this proposal and so does Russia, as Moscow has repeatedly stated.

For my part, I want to remind that it was Russia that initiated 9 years ago the «Minsk Agreements», which were guaranteed by Germany and France and were approved by the UN Security Council. However, as we learned later from the words of former German Chancellor A. Merkel and French President F. Hollande that the “Minsk agreements” were needed by the Western countries and the United States for only one purpose – to prepare Ukraine for war with Russia

The fact that neither the current Ukrainian authorities, nor the United States, nor the West want peace in Ukraine is evidenced by the fact that they reject any proposals for peace, including the recent Beijing’s ones. Washington’s unwillingness to promote peace is also proven by the fact that they actually initiated the signing of a decree by the puppet regime of Kiev on “Banning negotiations with Russia on establishing peace.”

I would like to emphasize that Russians and Ukrainians, who are actually one people, want to settle the conflict the most. Washington and the Western countries are using the puppet government of Ukraine, which came to power in 2014 as a result of a coup d’état, to solve their greedy enrichment goals despite the pain and suffering of the Ukrainian people.

The following facts affirm this:

Since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, American military corporations have increased their profits by almost two times;

Zelensky’s puppet regime in Ukraine has strengthened by banning all opposition parties;

There is an unprecedented oppression of believers with the closure and destruction of churches.

However, the Western counterparts should understand that peace will come to Ukrainian land and the goals of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, which are aimed at ensuring the safety of all residents of Ukraine without dividing into Russians and Ukrainians, will be achieved. Russia will never agree with the postulate of «security for the chosen». Security should be for everyone – equal and indivisible. Russia has enough forces, means and resources to ensure security for Russians and Ukrainians, and the sooner our opponents understand this and sit down at the negotiating table, the sooner peace will come to Ukraine.

No need for panic, maize reserve stocks enough – FRA

By PRISCA LUMINGU in Lundazi

THE Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has urged Zambians to stop panic buying of mealie meal as the country was food secure with maize strategic reserve stocks currently standing at 300, 000 metric tonnes.

Kelvin Hambwezya, the FRA board chairperson says there was no need for the hullabaloo over the shortage of mealie meal as the current stock of maize would last to the next harvest season.

“When we say do not panic, this is what we mean. There is no need for the hullabaloo as we have sufficient maize stocks to last the country up to the next harvest season,” Mr Hambwezya said.

Mr. Hambwezya said this when he laid a team of FRA officials and the media to check on the current stock of maize in Lundazi and Lumezi Districts of Eastern Province.

He said the Lundazi FRA depot complex alone had 32, 000 metric tonnes of maize in reserves.”Here where we are standing we have 32, 000 metric tonnes of maize. The reason is to show you that as FRA, we have sufficient maize stocks to last the country up to the next harvest season,” he said.  Mr. Hambwezya said the agency had started moving maize from areas where there was surplus and taking to areas where there was a deficit in order to address the mealie meal shortage in areas like Lusaka and Copperbelt province.

And FRA Lundazi depot complex marketing manager Rainford Phiri said the depot was dispatching on average 15 tracks per day to Lusaka with each track carrying about 30 metric tons per day.

And Lundazi acting District Commissioner Mukule Banda said the district was food secure as it had been receiving about 600 by 50 Kg bags of maize from FRA per week to address the local demand and it was sold at K200 per bag. Mr. Banda also indicated that the district has not witnessed the issues of smuggling in large quantities as the Zambia National Service officers are on high alert in boarder areas.

“We haven’t seen much on smuggling, not in large quantities, the ZNS officer are on high alert to ensure that the district is food secure,” Mr Banda said.

And a check at one of the milling plants, Katundu milling which has been receiving maize from the agency revealed that the plant had enough maize in stock to produce mealie meal for the local market.

Katundu milling proprietor Dr Martin Mtonga said the company had been a beneficiary among millers who have been buying cheaper maize from the Agency and last week alone it received 400 metric tonnes.

Meanwhile Lumezi District commissioner Jimmy Phiri said the district had over 10, 000 metric tons of maize in reserves.

Mr Phiri said the district had enough maize and working with FRA it would start transporting some of the commodity to areas where there is a deficit in order to address the mealie meal shortage in areas like Lusaka and Copperbelt.

Extreme poverty a key driver for relapse in kids with ALL

Children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) who live in extreme poverty and were undergoing maintenance therapy faced an almost two-fold greater risk of relapse compared with kids who weren’t as poor, according to a study published in today’s issue of Blood (April 18). Moreover, a higher proportion of these children had difficulty adhering to treatment, though researchers said this only partially explains the link between poverty and the risk of relapse.

HH HAS FULFILED 90 PERCENT OF CAMPAIGN PROMISES – UPND

By SHERRY CHABALA

THE UPND Lusaka Youth Chairperson Anderson Banda has said, the new dawn government has fulfilled 80 to 90 percent of the promises made during campaigns hence the need for Zambians to give President Hakainde Hichilema a chance to fulfill more developmental promises.

Mr. Banda said that, President Hakainde Hichilema is doing his best to ensure that the country is economically stable.

He said, the opposition is trying to play politics of propaganda which is not good for Zambia’s development.

“Politics of name calling, propaganda, hate and tribalism is long gone. The opposition need to graduate from that type of thinking to primitive politics.

Now that we have a modern President we should now do politics in the civilized manner. If they want to bring ideas on board they should be free to do that.

“We who are in government the agenda is the same with those who are in opposition. We are all pushing to lead the people of Zambia,” he said.
