2022 Audit report illegal,says Kasonde Mwenda

THE failure by the Auditor General to release the 2022 audit report on time is a breach of the constitution and has therefore rendered the report an illegal document, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has said.

According to the Zambian Constitution, the Auditor General shall not, later than nine months after the end of the financial year submit an audit report to the President and National Assembly on the accounts of the Republic audited in respect of the preceding financial year.

But the newly appointed Auditor General Dr Roy Mwambwa has caused the release of the 2022 audit report way after the lapse of the due date and Kasonde Mwenda, the EFF president is now branding the report illegal and an abrogation of the Zambian Constitution.

Mr Mwenda said the 2022 audit report revealed a blatant violation of Zambia’s revered Constitution by the UPND government.

Mr. Mwenda said the report was not clear as a lot of things were missing, among which, the report on the K4.5 billion Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

He said the cunning abuse of public resources by the UPND government was evident at the onset of the 2022 AG Report Year Ended as it had failed to promote transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources.

He has called upon citizens, civil society organizations, and international partners to hands in condemn the continued abuse of public resources.

Mr. Mwenda has also called upon the UPND government to immediately address the revelations brought forth by the 2023 AG Report.
