…as Nkandu, Kamanga salute CAF envoys

THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is confident that the final Group H match of the 2023 Ivory Coast Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Comoros will sustain the winning mentality established by Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant and his technical bench.

The Zambia national soccer team is set to regroup next Monday for the final Group H Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Comoros slated for September 9 in Comoros. 

FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said despite Zambia having already secured a ticket to Ivory Coast, the association is hoping that the technical bench uses the final match as part of preparations for the AFCON.

“Coach Avram Grant has named his squad for the assignment which encapsulates his commitment to ending the qualifiers on a high. We are conscious of FIFA World Cup qualifiers coming up in November that rank very highly on our radar,” Kamanga said.

Meanwhile, FAZ has hailed Power Dynamos and FC Muza for progressing to the next preliminary round of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup respectively.

On Saturday, Power Dynamos did the business by beating African Stars of Namibia 1-0 to seal off their ticket to the next round of the CAF Champions League while Maestro United followed through on Sunday to beat Cano Sports of Equatorial Guinea 3-0 and qualify to the next round of the CAF Confederations Cup.

Kamanga noted that although it is too early to be ecstatic about the progress of the Zambian envoys in CAF competitions, the steps made already signify a far cry from last year’s campaign.

He encouraged the two envoys to maintain the momentum in the next round where they will face Simba FC and the Black Devils of Congo Brazzaville respectively. 

And Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu has advised the CAF envoys to be clinical going into the next round where the competition is more challenging. 

Nkandu said Government was proud of the two teams for representing the country well in the first preliminary round.

He urged the two teams to work hard and fight to reach the group stages of the continental championships to have a chance of reclaiming Zambia’s lost two slots in the continental championships.

CITIZENS First Party President Harry Kalaba says the recent video in which he was being accused of being involved in illegal gold deal is a ploy to tarnish his image.

Speaking when he featured on Millennium TV programme dubbed “The Platform” Mr Kalaba said, the incident in the video is an indication that Kovernment is allegedly trying to implicate him.

He said it was disappointing government was now engaging foreign nationals to humiliate citizens which should be a concern to the public.

He said Zambia had a lot of challenges being faced and Government needed to channel its energy to address the economic malaise it had created instead of focusing to destroying its citizens.

Mr. Kalaba said it was unfortunate that the current government had been spending time on irrelevant issues such as plotting against its own citizens instead of addressing challenges such as the high cost of living. 

He said many Zambians had been pressing the government to unlock the mining sector by finding solutions to problems existing at both Mopani Copper Mine and Konkola Copper Mine which should have been the focus of those in Government.
