Stop divisive statements, Lawrence Mwewa tells PF members

By NATION REPORTER

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) member, Lawrence Mwelwa has advised members to desist from issuing divisive statements on social media that have potential to weaken the former ruling party.

Dr Mwewa said in a statement yesterday that every member has equal rights within the party’s constitution and that there is no hijacker within the party.

He admitted that members have the right to express their opinions, but that this should be done in a constructive and respectful manner. “Divisive statements only serve to weaken the party and make it harder to achieve shared goals,” Dr Mwelwa said.

He urged members to work together and to remain united, emphasising that a united front can win elections and bring about the desired change.

Dr Mwewa said the PF aimed at making a difference in the lives of Zambians and this could be achieved if members put their differences aside and work towards shared goals.

“As the nation celebrates Kenneth Kaunda Day, I call on all fellow members to renew our commitment to building a united and successful party,” Dr Mwewa said.

Nalumango eulogises KK – describes the late former President as a unifier who governed Zambia on the princples of peace, unity, harmony

By NATION REPORTER

VICE PRESIDENT Mutale Nalumango has eulogised Dr Kenneth David Kaunda, Zambia’s first President as a gift and leader who had dedicated all his life serving humanity with peace and unity.

Ms Nalumango says Zambia had remained a united, peaceful and harmonious country because President Kaunda had managed to unite the country’s 73 tribes through the One Zambia One Nation motto.

She said Zambia had remained a beacon of peace and unity in Africa because of the efforts of Dr Kaunda who did not only dedicate his life to serving Zambians but also fought for the liberation of many African countries from colonial rule.

Ms Nalumango said Dr Kaunda was being remembered for what he had done for the country and that it was important that the current leadership should continue emulating him.

Speaking when she officiated at the Kenneth Kaunda day commemoration yesterday, Ms. Nalumango said the first Republican President and the other freedom fighters founded Zambia on a very strong foundation of peace and unity.

Ms Nalumangio said President Hakainde Hichilema was emulating Dr Kaunda in his governance style and that was why the head of State was determined to have a united and prosperous Zambia irrespective of political divergences among citizens.

She recalled that Dr Kaunda in all his life had championed free education and that Zambia was primarily what it was because of the contributions and achievement of Dr Kaunda and his peers at the time.

“That is why we are seeing President Hakainde Hichilema continuing to follow on Dr Kaunda’s path by working towards having peace, unity, development and free education. Dr Kaunda, our First Republican President was a leader who had dedicated his life to peacefully govern Zambia. He governed with love and harmony and Zambia has remained united because Dr Kaunda had managed to unite all the 73 tribes. Dr Kaunda was a gift and was greater than the ordinary,” Ms Nalumango said.

She said although Dr. Kaunda was not a saint, he was such a leader loved by many, disclosing that she (Nalumango) was among the people who fought to have him out of power.

Ms. Nalumango said it was important that each and every person who took up the leadership of the country followed the principles that were set by the founding father of the nation. Former President Edgar Lungu was among the dignitaries who attended the commemoration with his wife Esther Lady Easter Lungu, former Vice President Inonge Wina, Chishimba Kambwili among others.

This year’s Kenneth Kaunda commemorations were held under the theme: Kenneth Kaunda the unifier.î
