Investor confidence waning under UPND – Mundubile

By NATION REPORTER
INVESTOR confidence has vanished under the UPND administration and Zambia has not attracted any new investor in the last two years, Brian Mundubile has said.
Mr Mundubile, the Leader of opposition in Parliament says it was sad that the UPND administration had not brought any new investors in the country, since taking over power after the 2021 general elections
He said President Hakainde Hichilema, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Chipoka Mulenga and ambassadors have let the country down by failing to attract new investors.
Mr Mundubile said the country would continue losing out on investment opportunities because the UPND government was only looking to the West while ignoring the East, especially Russia, China, India and Brazil.
Mr Mundubile has claimed that the investment environment in Zambia had become unpredictable with the change of foreign police after the UPND assumed power in 2021.
He stated that investors were becoming sceptical about Zambia’s inconsistency in its foreign policy and that government should realise that investor confidence was waning because of the uncertainties surrounding Zambia’s policy on international relations.
He said President Hichilema had undertaken a trip to the United States of America while in opposition where he revealed that he secured US$25 billion investment pledges, which would be actualised immediately after assuming the presidency of the country

FAZ mute over marijuana allegations

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has remained mute over the expulsion of Copper Queens midfielder Xiomala Mapepa in South Korea.

Mapepa was a second half substitute as Zambia suffered a 5-2 bashing by South Korea in the first international friendly match played on Friday at the Suwon World Cup Stadium in Seoul.

According to sources close to the team, the Elite Ladies midfielder who is the top scorer of the FAZ Women’s Super League was reported to FAZ officials and compelled them to take action.

FAZ acting General Secretary Iva Lengwe could not confirm the allegations but noted that Mapepa has been released from national duty, a decision which was arrived at by the Copper Queens team management and the host nation. “FAZ has in liaison with the team management and the host nation arrived at the decision that was made in line with the disciplinary code of conduct and also basic standards of conduct on foreign soil,” Lengwe said. Lengwe noted that the team is focused on tomorrow’s international friendly match against South Korea to conclude the international window action.

“South Korea provided a very good test for our team as it is the level that we will be expecting at the World Cup.”

The Copper Queens are using the friendlies in South Korea to prepare for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand.

Zambia is among 32 teams that have qualified for the championship and will compete in Group C alongside Spain, Japan and Costa Rica.

ECZ refutes reports of intending to cancel by-election in Lupososhi

By NATION REPORTER
THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says allegations by Citizens First president Harry Kalaba that ECZ and UPND are conniving to cancel the Katilye Ward by-election in Lupososhi are unfounded and untrue.
ECZ Corporate Affairs Manager, Patricia Luhanga said they have noted with concern an article published on Kalaba’s Facebook page suggesting the UPND wants ECZ to cancel the by-election in that area.
She has urged all electoral stakeholders to disregard the allegations as they were unfounded and untrue.
Ms. Luhanga said all participating political parties in the Katilye Ward by-elections should continue with their campaigns as guided through the campaign time table which was developed after nominations.
She said stakeholders must avoid from misleading the public with misinformation and disinformation because such actions do not only undermine the credibility of an election, it is also a recipe for anarchy if left unchecked.
Ms. Luhanga said stakeholders should adhere to the Electoral Code of conduct and follow the laid down conflict/complaint management procedures.
She said the polls for the by-elections in Chitimukulu Ward in Chililabombwe, Muchinda Ward in Serenje District and Katilye Ward Lupososhi would take place on April 20, 2023 as scheduled.
Ms Luhanga said the ECZ was closely monitoring the conduct of political parties, candidates, their supporters, and other stakeholders in the upcoming by-elections, and would not hesitate to invoke the provisions of the Electoral Process Act and take appropriate action against erring stakeholders where need arises.
