Bally gives out Airtel Money floats

“When you shout Bally, chi Airtel Money Float muli iwe!” – That sounded like a 12 August, 2021 campaign joke to many. The bliss is after President Hakainde Hichilema pressed his investment and finance special assistant Jito Kayumba to mobilise […]

JAY KELLY, LANJI IN NEW SONG, “HIDDEN TREASURE”

By TROY MUKUPA

“It’s sad that even in this time and age, some people still continue to discriminate against people born different from them. We need to learn to accept, respect and love those born different from us,” says talented newly-signed rapper and songwriter at Kalandanya Music Promotions, Jay Kelly in his new single “Hiden Treasures”

The song which is both in audio and video format features the talented singer and songstress Lanji.

Featuring on Q-TV Zambia’s Wednesday edition of IN TOUCH program, hosted by Nelson Zulu, Jay Kelly said people born with albinism and those born with different physical disabilities also need care, love and support.

He said its high time people stood together to bring change to the many beliefs against albinism and disability.

“Hidden Treasure is a song I did that points out the many challenges faced by either people born with albinism or those born with physical disabilities. Just on albinism, the last census conducted showed that Zambia had about 25, 324 people with albinism who sadly continue to live in fear despite the efforts by the government to promote their welfare including prohibiting racial discrimination and brutal attacks. It’s sad that even in this day and age, some people still continue to have disclimentaly thoughts on people born different from them. We need to learn to accept , respect and love those born different from us”

“There is also the stigma that is thrown at a woman or a couple that has been married for sometime without bearing a child. Families and the community also tend to throw dirt (stigma). Its really sad and such needs to end. Basically, the song ‘Hidden Treasure’ has a message to point out that what if it was you or what if it was your brother, sister or child born that way or in that situation. How would you feel seeing them being mistreated,” he added

Hidden Treasure is already receiving massive support and airplay rotations. This is the artist’s second release for 2023.

Could a novel small molecule slow or reverse the effects of Duchenne muscular dystrophy?

In a new study published in The FASEB Journal, investigators demonstrated the potential of a molecule that may help overcome some of the devastating symptoms of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), the most common life-limiting congenital neuromuscular disorder. The agent promotes the activity of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), an important fuel-sensing enzyme that is present in all mammalian cells.

Tick bite? What you should do to reduce your chances of getting sick

Tick bites can make people sick and may spread Lyme disease and many other illnesses. A bite from one type of tick can even lead to a meat allergy. Tick exposure can occur year-round, but ticks are most active during warmer months (April-September). If you spend time outside walking, hiking or gardening, it’s important to know what to look for—and what to do if you are bitten or find a tick on your skin.

New model predicts cardiovascular risk among chronic kidney disease patients

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a strong cardiovascular risk factor and is often accompanied by hypertension and diabetes. Despite the disease’s prevalence—10 percent of individuals across the globe suffer from CKD—there are limited tools for measuring cardiac risk for CKD patients, until now. A new proteomic risk model for cardiovascular disease was found to be more accurate than current methods of measuring cardiac risk, according to a new study led by researchers in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. The study published today in the European Heart Journal.
