ZABS to collaborate with National Standards Bodies for regional acceptance of Zambian goods

THE Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has pledged to collaborate with National Standards Bodies within the region and beyond to ensure the signing of cooperation agreements to facilitate for Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) that facilitate the acceptance of Zambian products and services on the regional and international markets.

High blood pressure in males in late adolescence associated with later increased risk of major cardiovascular events

A study of more than 1 million Swedish men followed for up to 50 years found that higher blood pressure (BP) at age 18 was associated with an increased risk for major cardiovascular events later in life, including heart failure, heart attacks, strokes, and mortality. The risk for major cardiac events became elevated beginning at a BP of 120/80 mm Hg. According to the researchers, early intervention for hypertension may be critical to reducing later cardiovascular events. The findings are published in Annals of Internal Medicine.

Researchers describe clinical experiences of transgender people, recommend new strategies

Many transgender people experience mistreatment in health care encounters, which can include harassment, assault and denial of care. A new paper published in the September/October 2023 issue of Annals of Family Medicine describes the clinical experiences of transgender people. Study authors also present short-term and long-term strategies towards reducing oppression and its health consequences among this patient population.
