Researchers identify a potential therapeutic target against cirrhosis and liver inflammation

The RNF41 protein could be a new therapeutic target in the fight against two chronic liver diseases: cirrhosis and liver inflammation. This is the conclusion of a study published in the journal Science Translational Medicine led by researcher Pedro Melgar-Lesmes, from the Department of Biomedicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona.

Breaking the cycle of mental illness with early intervention

Severe mental illness such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia have a tremendous impact not only on the affected individual, but on their families. Children of parents with severe mental illness are also more likely to experience psychological and social adversity and academic problems, and they are at higher risk of developing severe mental illness themselves.
